I am very interested in FIOS, but ADT--my burglar alarm system company--has not approved FIOS for burglar alarm monitoring, which is an absolute necessity for my household.  Will Verizon install FIOS TV and internet, keep the copper phone line active, and give me the advantage of the FIOS bundled rate for all three services (Internet, TV and Phone)?  Thanks for the advice.

FIOS telephone is not yet available. You will still keep your copper phone lines. Dont worry about it.

Umm, no. The copper wires are removed and replaced with fiber when fios internet/tv is installed. This is why there is a battery back up. It is used for phone service should there be a power outage. There is no copper to provide the electrical current for powering the phone.

I have heard people fighting with Verizon to keep the copper. Sometimes it works and sometimes not.

The copper lines are not removed.
They may be disconnected from the original box.
FIOS does provide phone usage, but it is with Voice-over-IP (VOIP).
You should ask ADT if they can provide you with a Cellular option/device for your ADT monitoring service.

This device may or may not cost you a little bit or increase your monthly fee, but it will allow them to still monitor your service.

I have ADT and it works fine with pots over the Fios fiber. I found out the hard way when my son was cooking and set off the fire alarm.  Grin

ADT has now informed me that FIOS phone service will work with its monitoring system.    I have just ordered FIOS triple play.

On wether Verizon removes copper wire there is an informative article, "Verizon's Copper Cuttoff Traps Customers" at http://www.freepress.net/news/24446

Therein it quotes a Verizon spokesman:
- "Customers should have been notified at least three times."
- "Rabe, the Verizon spokesman… the phone giant provides ample warning, he said."

It's not like they go in your house and yank all the copper out of it!  And they don;t even bother pulling it out of the ground outside your house.  All they do is disconnect the copper coming from street to house and re-route a piece of new copper from the ONT into the existing phone box.  Fiber optic from street to ONT then it's distributed accordingly.  Coax, phone and ethernet.  The fiber replaces the old copper line from street to house.  everything still works like before.  the magic is all in the ONT.

I had FIOS installed today; so far so good--everything works well!  The installers were quite efficient and cooperative, installing in the middle of a heavy rainstorm.
