From what I gather, FIOS TV is fiber to the pole, but is then converted to the likes of digital cable and enters your house as coax, providing compatiblity with existing wiring, and even analog channels for TVs for which you do not wish to lease a set-top converter.  My question is simple, does FIOS TV comply with the new digital cable standards, and to go one step further, does FIOS TV offer Cable-Card (1.0 or 2.0) compatibility and leasing?  I've got my hopes way up that the asnwer is yes, which would mean compatiblity with Tivo 3 (HD recording and cable-card compatible, expected at the end of 2006).  Not looking for speculation here, but real facts from someone in the know.  Thanks.

Verizon FiOS offers Fiber To The Premises (FTTP) using fiber optic cable to a box called an ONT. From there, coax cable is then used to the set top box provided by Verizon at the TV. If the coax is not providing a good signal to the stb, then new coax will have to be run to the box. Cat 5e cable is used to the computer for high speed internet.

I am not familar with the new digital cable standards that you have stated. The only thing that I know of is that television stations have to provide a digital signal over the air in the future but I don't about the new digital cable regulations.

The talk around the internet is that Cable-Card 1.0 won't be used and that Verizon is waiting on finalization of industry specs before they go ahead with Cable-Card 2.0.

Sometimes speculation is all you are going to get because most people on the internet don't work for Verizon.
