A client of mine gets FiOS installed tomorrow (January 3, 2006) in an area of Hermosa Beach about dead-center of the city. I am in the northern end of Hermosa Beach (22 blocks north of my client) and still do not have FiOS availability though I can almost touch the fiber cable (it's about 12 feet away from where I sit right now, yet "light years" away since it's not available).
I had several discussions with the Verizon crew stringing the cable (they used an area behind my garage to do splicing, etc.) and have been a major promoter of fiber to the home to locals (including City Council reps who tentatively approved a Verizon Video franchise on December 13, 2005 with a final vote soon after getting required public input), but still no luck yet at my address. I think availability is pending installation of street-level distribution boxes which some residents object to because of the size and appearance (but not me, just bring it on!). Very frustrating since I'm having problems with my DSL, am out of the penalty period for early termination on my existing DSL account, and I don't want to sign up for a more reliable DSL service (and face early termination fees) if FiOS is soon to happen.
A side note to "FiOS Installer" should you read this post - though I know I'm not exactly in your area, is there any way you can get info to me or suggest someone locally I can contact regarding when the northern end of Hermosa Beach (2700 block at the beach) can expect availability? Any help would be most appreciated! Oh, and by the way, the pictures of your work posted on this forum are something you really should be proud of - very neat, very professional, and very impressive! I wish everyone took pride is the quality of work that you obviously do, all our "technology lives" would be much more enjoyable if they did!
Happy New Year everyone!
