This is my fourth attempt at posting this. I hope it works.

I have a lot more pictures but I can't upload them because of the attatchment size limit.

--------------------------------------------------------

Since this past summer when I noticed the crews installing the fiber on the utility poles behind my house I have been drooling. Speed and... bye bye Comcast.

Finally..... my FIOS is here!

It arrived on Thursday 29 December, 2005.

I had prepared my network closet to accept my new baby. (Actually a corner in my basement where all power telephone and network lines are homed.)

The Verizon installation technician was both friendly and professional. He was on site only 3-1/2 hours. Everything went flawlessly.

I am switching from Comcast cable broadband. Connection speeds reported by www.speakeasy.net/speedtest

ISP         Download   Upload
----------------------------   -----------------   --------------

Comcast broadband:   6.16mbps   327kbps

Verizion FIOS:      14.8mbps   1.8mbps

By the way, I live in Ft, Wayne, Indiana.

Fnished installation in my "wiring closet". Notice my next project underway, the automatic transfer switch for my new Generac 15kW standby power generator.

Thanks to FIOS Maniac, I can post some more of the pics.

Pictures in order

1. My Verizon Installation Tech Tim up the pole running the fiber. Mine is the first tap on the block.

2. Tim wiring up the Motorola ONT1000. He left my original NID in place.

3. Tim installing BBU in "wiring closet".

4. 3.25 hours after Tim started installation I am creating my Verizon account.

5. New Verizon provided VDI-624 Wireless router sitting atop my aged but still functional Netgear RT-314 router and SMC 1016DT 16 port switch. To the right is my cable modem.
