I'm not here to rant, because I suspect it may be due to government problems (contracts permission for laying the fiber optic cables and such), but I am curious, why is there only 1 town in connecticut with FIOS? Isn't that a weak effort on the part of Verizon AND the local governments? We need comcast (read com"crap") to have realistic competition or they'll never improve the quality of service. (Somebody needs to crack down on apartments limiting themselves to cable as well, I can understand the sattelite problem, but FIOS wouldn't require anything more than a wire/cable and I doubt they'd be able to hold off permission for that.)
Please increase your efforts to offer services here, I despise comcast, but I really don't think DSL is up to the task, and I cannot currently get satellite, which is the only available competition for them.
aside from all of the factors you already mentioned...
as far as i'm concerned laying down new fiber was halted. it has been like that for a while now.
as to why? i don't know what to tell you, it seems to be more cost effective to have people sign up for the service where fiber has already been laid down.
