I ordered Fios TV (Herndon, VA) and it willbe installed on Jan 13. I am getting the DVR for the Family room, a HD receiver for the Rec Room and a standard receiver for the MBR. Currently I have DirectTV with a Tivo box (life-time subscription) in the Family room. Will I be able to move and install my Tivo box in the Rec Room? Will Tivo be able to "identfy" the Fios TV channel line up?

Ordering Fios TV was a difficult decision as I have really come to love DirectTv, I hope I havent made a mistake.

Am I correct to assume that the isntallion will be just a matter of disconnecting my DirectTV dish and installing coax jumpers to the exisitng coax house infrastructure? Hoiw many coax "Ports" will be installed in my ONT? Would I be able to add an additional room receiver to an unsued port in the future?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave, unfortunately what you are thinking here is not going to be possible.  I too am an existing DirecTV with Tivo subscriber with 2 "DirecTivo" set top boxes that I have modded to increase size and allow multi-room viewing.  Unfortunately these set tops are designed to decode the signal coming from a DirecTV satellite dish which is different from a signal coming from a different provider.

Once my house is built in Keller, TX it will be a decision I have to make to ditch the two Tivo boxes I own to have to start paying $12.95/mo for each FiOS DVR (and I would want 3 - Family/Master BR/Media room).  The advantage is that the FiOS DVR is a HD DVR so it not only allows you to view HDTV but also lets you record it.

I don't think Dave has DirectTivo, but regular Tivo.  So he isn't bound to the DTV tuner box and DTV.

I think the real question here is two fold:

1. Does Tivo support the Programing guide of FiosTV?

2. Will the Tivo be able to communicate with the FiosTV receiver set-top box?

If the answer is yes to both of those questions, he should be good to go. Can anyone answer this for him and me?

Yes, Tivo supports the FiosTV program guide, and yes it controls the STBs as well as can be expected (i.e. to change from channel 801 to 802, it doesn't just send a "channel up" signal, it sends signals for 8-0-2 instead), but it's a real nuisance.

Tried using my SA series 2 tivo because I can't stand the DVR, but it was such a pain with the blasters, etc., that I decided that wasn't an option. About to cancel service because of the DVR.  Angry
