Do you know exactly where Fios is available now? I was just offered a job in the Renton area and would like to know the closest area that will be served by Fios. Thanks.

I'm in Bothell/Mill Creek, WA( Snohomish County) and last I checked FIOS was supposed to be rolling out in King and Snohomish Counties sometime this year...Nothing available thus far...Renton BTW is in King County

Verizon FiOS in Washington
Verizon FiOS is currently available for the state of Washington. Washington is one of the 16 states where Verizon is currently deploying their FiOS internet service. FiOS is a new fiber optic internet service offered by Verizon. This new service uses fiber optic cables connecting your home computer to the internet. Verizon FiOS is the first internet service provider to offer FTTP (fiber to the premises) to the residents of the deployed states. The most recent addition to the FiOS network is the state of Washington, which was announced in late November 2005. Fiber internet will revolutionize the subscribers search the internet. While internet speeds in the United States have been lagging behind other countries, Verizon's new FiOS internet service will help boost the internet speeds of the consumers. A copper internet connection is very limited in the speeds it can get, while with a fiber connection, subscribers can receive very high internet connection speeds. There are several areas in the state where the Verizon FiOS internet service might be available.

Gypsy,
The closest area to Renton would be Kirkland or Redmond...Renton is approx 15-30 miles south of Seattle depending on what side of Renton ya live or work on...Redmond and Kirkland are approx 10-20 minutes away from certain parts of Renton. In just looking at the areas selected by Verizon to intialize the Fios installs its likely that they are targeting areas with a certain income because Redmond, Kirkland Bothell etc are all generally areas where you will find the higher income families...For example..Microsoft is located in Redmond so you know that area gets alot of love from Verizon.

I live in Redmond WA about 1 mile from Microsoft. I figure my area will be one of the first to receive FIOS. I did receive a hanging doorknob notice about 3 weeks ago stating that crews would soon be installing Verizon fiber in my neighborhood. I have not noticed them yet, but, with the power company finishing up some underground cabling it will be a lot more difficult for me to spot the Verizon fiber contractor. My guess is that Anacortes will be a long time off (years) but I could be wrong. I will post again when I actually see the fiber being installed.

I have not seen any fiber contractors yet but I just got another hanging door notice about fiber installation. Looks like Verizon changed fiber install contractors. The first notice I received back around May 1st listed Tetra Tech C.S.I. as the fiber installation contractor. The new notice I received about a week ago lists North Sky Communications as the contractor. My wife saw them hanging the notice on our door and she asked them when they would be installing the fiber and the person replied "about two weeks". Hopefully this time it will really happen...

So... I don't see Seattle on the list of project cities. I would have thought it would be one of the first, since it's an urban center and all. Anyways, any guesses on when Seattle might get FIOS?

I guess it is a case of "better late than never" for my neighborhood. The fiber contractors have finally shown up and are burying orange tubes all over the neighborhood. The streets and yards are full of paint and flags of various colors to mark the existing buried electric, gas, cable and phone wires. I will post again when the fiber is terminated on the side of my house.
