I'm having FiOS installed to my home in Teaneck, NJ this Friday. We just purchased the house, and are starting Verizon phone+FiOS internet service. I have a few questions about the install process. 1) They say we need a 3 prong outlet for the power/battery backup stuff. The thing is, I don't know WHERE to put this outlet. My house is terribly low on 3 prong outlets, and some rooms [basement, garage] don't even have outlets. So I figure I need to install one, but I don't know where. Any tips? 2) They say they will run a network cable from the ONT to my computer. But that they'll use existing coax? Or they'll run new coax (different CR people tell me different things). Or they'll run CAT5. Which is it? There is no coax where my computer will be, and clearly I'd prefer CAT5 (as opposed to obsolete-ish coax). 2a) Also, getting conflicting reports regarding them fishing cables through the wall. One CR told me I need to have an electrician run a network cable from the (as yet unknown) location of the ONT to the computer. Is this the case? Or will the install tech run the cable as I see fit? 3) Is there a way to find out if the fiber cable will be underground or off the pole in my neighborhood? 4) Can I use my own router, or must I use Verizon's? 5) Is the ONT installed inside or outside my house?
I think that's it for now. Thanks in advance, Eli.
