Does anyone have any experience with FIOS in condominium buildings? Comments, photos, etc?
My condo complex will soon be getting FIOS and evidently the FIOS sub-contractor seems to be making a pitch 'to get fiber into each apartment'... Is this a good idea? Since our buildings are small (10 apartments, including 4 town-houses and 6 apartments in a central, 3-story area)... and we have utility rooms where the phone and cable boxes currently live, why not install the multi-port ONT there and reconnect the existing coax from each apartment into it? Instead of having to then install an ONT inside each apartment (with limited or no space for utilities).
I have a hunch this sub-contractor may be 'milking FIOS' (who pays for the installation) because the maximum (existing) coax runs from the utility rooms to the furthest townhouses are well under 75-100 ft. And I've also read on this forum that the ONT produces such a signal strength that at times it may need to be attenuated for use on the TV.
Am I on the right track? Thanks!
i live in a townhome and i got my own fiber
verizon is pushing for fiber to the premise for everyone
think about it this way
yeah ok it does seem more efficient to put a multi port ont
but meeh, to be honest that idea sounds awful to me
imagine someone just screwing around the ont and messing everything up for the whole row of townhomes
doesn't sound too good...
you were also talking about having limited space for utilities
the ont's being used nowadays are not very bulky
the can fit easily in a closet.
atleast that's where mine is
