DVR Question - What options are available on a series recording?

I have previously used Bright House cable w/ DVR.
  I had the option to record first-run only (aka. only new episodes)
When we moved we used DirecTV and I had the same option.
When we moved again I got Comcast and even though they say it is possible I have never found the option, so I am stuck recording hours of re-runs that I don't need.

My question is what options are available when scheduling a show to record.
Any Day/Time?
Any Channel?
First-Run Only?
How long to keep?
How many episodes to keep?
Save until manually erased?

If it matters I am in the Richmond, VA area.
My FIOS service will be installed in October.
