hey all, thanks in advance for reading this...

I have had FIOS in Tampa for about 6 months now...i have frequent wireless drop-outs, and cannot figure out why.  I have had Verizon out to replace the router, and i still get the drop-outs.  It usually happens when downloading large files, say big content-heavy websites and newsgroup downloads.

Anyway, I have my eye on the new Belkin N1 Vision router (not even out yet as I am typing this), and i dont even know if it will fix the drop-outs or not, but my question is, do i NEED to have the Actiontec router in order to work properly with my Verizon Digital cable?  I was under the impression that Verizon told me on install the cable box won't update the program guide properly or some other BS like that, and they heavily advised keeping the Actiontec as part of the system (i understand they tell customers this for troubleshooting purposes, as they cant troubleshoot a linksys router because all of their troubleshooting guides are for the Actiontec).

So, will moving to a different router affect my cable TV at all, and also, is there anything about the Actiontec itsself that makes it 'optimized' for FIOS, i.e., will i LOSE some of my 20mb down because the new router can't 'handle' 20mb down?

once again, thanks for checkin this out!

yes the actiontec is required for the FiosTV service. with out it the IPG (Interactive Programming Guide) can not recieve updates nor will your VOD (Video On Demand) service function or the widgets.

You can get another router and piggy back it off the action tec and use ur router for wireless. just make sure it doesnt have the same ip as the actiontec which is 192.168.1.1 maybe change your router to 192.168.2.1
