I recently got FIOS Installed at my house and I have to say that it is great. I'm still having some issues with my 3rd party e-mail but I don't believe that is a FIOS Verizon issue. I did however want to point out something very interesting that I came across when doing some speed tests on my FIOS Connection.
I like most people use the Speak Easy Speed Test site for my testing which seems to be the most favorable testing site I've tried. At the same time I like a lot of people have completely switches over to Firefox (with all of the latest patches) as my default primary browser on pretty much any computer that I touch. Sure Internet Exploder 7 is cool with the Tabs and all but I still think that Firefox is so much better in so many ways but this is truly a personal preference.
Since Firefox is my primary browser I've performed all of my speed tests with Firefox and came up with some really interesting results. I have the FIOS 20mb 5mb service. Whenever I perform any tests I would see a little over 20mb Sec download but only a little over 2mb sec upload. I was on the phone with a FIOS Support person for another issue and he suggested that I download the FIOS "Tweaks" and then try it. Well I did just that and it didn't make any difference.
Since I know that Firefox still isn't 100% supported by everyone for some reason if I have an issue with a website or web based application I will try the same thing in IE so I did just that in this case. Behold a results of just over 20mb down and 4.5mb upload which is where I expected to be. Keep in mind that this was after the "Tweaks" were loaded on the system and the system rebooted. Was this the ultimate resolution? To check this I went to a completely different system that also has Firefox as the primary browser and IE 7 installed as well (BTW these are all Win XP Pro Machines). Mind you this machine did NOT have the "Tweaks" installed and the results were the same as the system with the tweaks. Download the same in both IE and Firefox and upload 2.5mb for Firefox and 4.5mb in IE. To say that this surprised me is an understatement as I've always felt that Firefox is the fastest browser around and since the download was where it should be I had no reason to suspect the upload wouldn't be.
I assume I can't be the only person seeing this result and wonder if anyone has any ideas suggestions as to how to get the results in Firefox around the same as IE?
