I work from home and would love the speed improvement that Fios can offer as I frequently have to transfer very large data sets.
I haven't called Verizon yet because I have one issue... In the past the router I have tried with my broadband modem sometimes have trouble with the VPN traffic that I use when connected to our corporate network. To be clear, the VPN is fine but it interferes with other computers in the house (or XBox live) trying to connect to the internet at the same time. The Dlink-624 I have now is working fine.
After reading the posts on this I'm concerned about the router that Verizon is telling me I "have" to use. so...
1) Do I really have to use their or can I change it for my own?
2) Has anyone done VPN through the supplied router while others were accessing the internet not over the VPN?
3) How's the range on the wireless for the supplied router? I've got a box or two in the house out near the edge...
I'm no expert in this stuff so if I asked a confusing question, sorry!
Thanks in advance for any advice you might have!

just answering your questions
1. using the verizon router is only a requirement if you have the television service. the set top boxes need it for ip connectivity. so yeah, if you do not have television service you can use ANY router.
2. i have done troubleshooting with many people who used VPN and none seem to have a problem.
3. the range of the actiontec router is average. Answering questions about wireless is kind of tough because to me it goes on a case by case. there's too many variables that determine how good your signal would be in any part of the house.
