I've tried checking on the verizon website to see if FIOS is available in my area but I keep getting and error back saying my phone/address isnt in their database. Do I need to be a verizon customer to even be able to check if the FIOS service is in my area?

If Verizon is not your local phone provider then you will not see FIOS in your area. Usually, from my experience, when someone's address is not in their database, Verizon is not that persons local phone provider.

Griffin, call 1-483-4000 or 1-888-get-fios. and check with your neighbors to see if they have fios, in case your address is not in fiber availability in IVAPP.
