Something has been bothering me for a long time, and Verizon can't seem to answer my question over the phone. I just found this forum today, so I am hoping someone can explain something to me.
I live less than 1/2 mile from a phone company exchange building* that was wired with fiber optics from the main office several years ago. I guess to get FiOS*, the fiber optics have to be wired to my home as well, that isn't my question though. My question is why the phone exchange even further from the main phone company office allows dsl service to my neighbors, but the building that serves my neighborhood doesn't?
I have had educated guesses from former employees (a line repairman and a maintenance supervisor), but I'd really like to know why.
*I don't know if I am using the right terminolgy, because I have heard Verizon employees refer to it as a "phone office", but it is an unmanned building, of approximately 750 sq ft, that serves for phone service.
*FiOS isn't available in the 92284/92285/92252 area codes anyway, although dsl is - except in my neighborhood.
