Finally I'm getting fios, no TV yet in my area, can't wait for that. I have one question on the software that the tech will be installing. My options are 1. Verizon 2. MSN with Premier 3. Yahoo. I don't want MSN or Yahoo, so if I opt for Verizon will I still be using IE7 as my browser and Outlook for e-mail? Currently I have Optonline as my ISP.

Thanks  Wink

I can't answer your question, but I can tell you that I did not let them install any software on my PCs, all that fluff and junk just isn't of any interest to me.

When I converted from Charter Cable (which I did not allow to install any software either), I just unplugged from the cable and plugged into FiOS, worked from the beginning. I did run the Verizon-recommended TCP/IP tuning tool to improve performance. I currently use IE 7 and OE with no problem at all on FiOS, with 7 "homepages" in IE, not one of which is Verizon, MSN, or Yahoo.

Now, I do have to admit that once or twice a week I do go to the Verizon Central webpage to check the SPAM folder to see if any legitimate emails have wound up there. I have found 3 or 4 there that shouldn't have been in the last 2 or 3 months, so that is worth checking (assuming you activate the SPAM filter, which I did and I think it works very well).

Have fun, I think you will find FiOS excellent- I have.

You can use any software you want for browsing or email, regardless of what they happen to put on there. That software is provided to people who like the "portal" feel that has kept many AOL subscribers paying way too much for dial-up.
