I can get the fiber service but the fine print lists limitations for the Mac? The thought of 30mbs sounds great as does the price but I do not want the hassle of problems.

Heres what they say:

Only Web based features of Verizon Yahoo! for FiOS are Macintosh® compatible.

What do they mean? I just want to stay on Safari and do whatever i do. What will different?  Am I asking too much?

Thanks.

I have a Mac and I have FiOS.  I also had the same question in my mind.  I found out that you're not required to get the Verizon Yahoo thing.  It's just a portal for the Internet similar to the AOL portal and is for people who are not familiar with hopping directly on the Internet and surfing away.  The Verizon Yahoo portal is for beginners who need a way to get their mail, anti-virus, etc.  Like AOL, it's FULL of advertisements and it's like going to a carnival and having to walk by all the hucksters who want to sell you something before you can get to the big ride.  We Mac users already have everything that they have: we get our mail through our Mail program and have anti-virus, etc programs.

So, to answer your question.  No, you don't have to get the Verizon Yahoo thing, and there's no problem with having FiOS and a Mac.  They work great together.  BTW, just curious why you're getting the 30MB package?  That's unbelievable lightning fast and $200/month.  Ouch!  What are you going to do with it?  I have 15mb for $50/month and that's blazing fast.  I'm not trying to be some snot-nosed smarty-pants jerk...I'm just curious.

Thats great news. I was not aware that it is $200 a month for 30mbs. I will get the 15mbs and be very happy.

    Thanks.

    like the previous post said
you don't need to go with either of the portals (yahoo, msn)

one thing you might want to look into is how the mac is configured
now i haven't seen many people run into this problem with a mac
but you might have to tweak it to work at a higher speed.
much like opening increasing the number of ports on a pc.

the apple support website has a free program that can help you
do that in case you have problems
    here is a link : )
