Do they use HDMI and if so how many HDMI inoputs, do they supply the HDMI cables?

I can answer some of your questions:

    1) The DVR is a Motorola QIP6416

    2) Yes, it is HD, with two tuners.

    3) It has an optical SPDIF for Dolby 5.1 (don't know any more than that, have never used it).

    4) Has one HDMI connection.

    5) I bought my own cable, I suspect Verizon will provide one if you don't have one, but am not sure (my install was almost a year ago, things may have changed).

    6) No DVI

    7) Can't answer about Dolby enhanced, don't know what that is.

You can Google "qip6416" and find a spec sheet at Motorola's website that will give you more  info.

Verizon has recently made available in some areas enhancements to the DVR that include a Media Manager so you can view photos or play music from your PC on your TV, and a multi-room capability to view SD recordings on up to 3 other SD STBs (Motorola 2500). The price goes up from $12.95 to $19.95/mo if you want those features on your DVR. I received a mailing today about these features, have not yet decided whether I want to get them.

FWIW, I am very happy with FiOS, internet and TV.

As far as I know, as of right now those cnnections are inoperable.  Seems everyone is still jumpy about DRM so I doubt you'll find any box anywhere that has 1394, usb, or any other such output that works.  At least until they sort out the DRM issues.

The Users Guide for the FiOS Set Top Box that they give you is here:

    http:/www22.verizon.com/content/fiostv/customer+support/customer+support.htm

It shows you all the connections and what they're for.  Hopefully, that'll answer your question.
