I got a DLINK 624 from Verizon but I didn't want to use it. I have several other wireless router/firewalls that I prefer- A WRT 300n (brand new) and an older WRTGS54G (?). The problem is that only the DLINK Verizon gave me gives me proper 30/5 throughput that I purchased. It also appears to be the only device out of my three that allows you to change settings like MSS/RWIN/etc right on the device. I have tried *everything* to get my other devices to hit the 30/5 that the DLINK does but to no avail. I max out at about 12mbit/sec both wired and wireless- The upstream is fine at 5mbit/sec...So presumably the devices either can't handle pulling 30mbit/sec or there is some setting or hack that needs to be done.
I have done all the obvious things- change tcp stack settings on my pc (several, actually), gone wired and wireless (same result), and changed wireless channels, mixed/mode vs. G-only, you name it.
SO the question is- someone else *must* be having this problem assuming they don't want to use the Verizon Dlink router they got...right? If so, ..or *if* you had it, how did you fix it?
Thanks!
I appologize for bringing such an old thread back to life but I just joined this board and have the answer to this question. The issue is that most "home" routers/access points are only 10MB on the WAN port. The manufactures assumed that no one would have a faster ISP at home. The Dlink model provided by Verizon has a "custom" firmware that raises the speed of the WAN port.
