Can the Battery Backup be installed on the outside of a home and does it require an electrical outlet?

I believe the battery backup must be installed inside (mine is) as I don't believe it is weatherproof like the ONT is. It does require an electrical outlet to be plugged into. Lots of folks are using a UPS between the outlet and the BBU to extend the time it will provide power when you lose your electric service.

Any idea of how far away the BBU can be from the ONT?

In my csse the 4 hour BBU is coplaced with the FIOS equipment outside in panel.
I do have another 45 min BBU inour Datacenter "closet" and on top of it BBU's for every other Item.
I prefer to have surge protection as  mine fluctuates from 115 -121 all the time.

    Thank you.

In other forum discussions. my impression is that the BBU needs to be placed "inside" for weather protection. So the only closet close to where I could mount the BBU with an elextrical outlet is about 60' away from the ONT.

However, I noticed you mentioned outside "panel.' Did you mean that your BBU unit is placed in a small panel?

I have a  big panel outside as my house was prewired with Fiberoptics inb  mind, so the communications panel houses  Cat5 or Cat 6 from the get go.
All new homes now have a big panel outside and a seperate Data Panel inside  in Mastr closet.
Maybe i take some picks later.
Ad yes FIOS BBU is outside
