Just had the line ran from the main to the house.  Still no real word on when the next steps will be taken.

My source at Verizon says end of the year before internet service is running.  Heard rumors from installers that TV and internet about the same time.

      Noctumluvr,
Thats awesome news! I live in New Haven, Indiana in Shordon Estates. I was contacted last week by Verizon's contractor asking questions whats buried in my backyard. Had two visits since then. One by the gas company marking the locations of gas lines underground, and another one just yesterday by their contractor doing prep work on the outside phone box. Should be sometimes this week when they start running lines to my home. I was told it wouldn't be until December before internet service is running. Then I ask about the cable TV, they said not until they reach agreement with the State of Indiana and local officals that they can offer cable TV services. I main thing I want is the HD channels and clear pictures! I did have comcast HD digital cable last year, but I got sick of playing $80 a month for it!! So I drop them for the DISH! Once Verizon cable is up and running, I am dropping the DISH too!! Also I will be dropping my high speed internet services from Comcrap!! Then my home would be rid of Comcrap for good!! All these years, they kept jacking up their cable TV service fee every 6 month, now they will be many people leaving Comcrap just because of that alone.

Well being a "New Bee" I think I just posted my first post to the wrong forum. I posted to "Fios Internet"

I also live in Fort Wayne and just found this thread. The guy is outside installing my drop right now. He said Verizon will be calling me in a few days to hook it up.  I will not repeat what I wrote in the other post. Cannot wait for the new speed increase! Cheesy Go Indianapolis Colts! Shocked

     Hi WGATCHELL,
Welcome to our little home! Always nice to meet someone from good old Fort Wayne or New Haven! I seen your question over at the other forum. The contractor told me, they install the boxes inside the homes. As for putting the box in your gargage attic, I wouldn't do it because how hot it can get up there durning the summer. Just put it in your store and you could cook it faster. LOL Thats good news that they burying the fiber optic cable in your backyard. They buried mine two weeks ago. I am sitting back waiting for them to do the final step. Which is to install the box and service. I still never got a phone call when they going to install the box and service. Not really in a hurry, because they dont have FIOS TV yet. I guess they still waiting on Fort Wayne to let them offer it. I have Comcast high speed internet now. Wont have them for long, once I get connected to Verizon FIOS.
    Yeah thats right!! GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank-You for the reply. Yes you are right, I never thought about the heat factor. Well they put the drop in yesterday to the house and left 20 feet extra, but think I changed my mind and will put it where they feel is best. I guess having an air conditioner in the attic would be a little over kill Smiley

I read in todays paper that they need 40 more Verizon employees to do the final install into the house, so who knows when they will get to mine Embarrassed

GO INDIANAPOLIS COLTS 7-0 AND COUNTING

Np, always a pleasure. You might want to check in more details about that information I gave you about installing the box in the home only. Thats what my contractor told me how they did it. But then I ran across this at the Verizon FIO site. I cut and paste it for you. They talking about the box is install outside of the home or gargage. My contractor must been wrong, since he only buries the fiber optic. Maybe the owner of this forum can shed some light on it. But anyway here is the link to Verizon FIOS page I found that information. Look where it says Installation process:

    http:/www22.verizon.com/FiOSforhome/channels/FiOS/root/faq.asp#equip_q1

    1. What other equipment is needed for Verizon FiOS Internet Service?
As part of your Verizon FiOS Internet Service, you will select either a 4-port wired or wireless router. Your router will enable you to create a home network so that multiple computers can be online at the same time. Your router also contains special diagnostic software that can help us trouble-shoot and correct problems should you experience trouble with your Internet Service. You will need to use the Verizon router with your FiOS Internet service.

In addition, new equipment will be installed at your home for the Verizon FiOS network. An Optical Network Terminal (ONT) will be installed on the outside of your home, and a battery backup unit will be installed inside your home or garage. The ONT will need to be plugged into an electrical outlet inside your garage or home, so you’ll need to ensure an outlet is located close to where the ONT will be installed.

Yes, I know Bgatchell.  They coming to my home November 28th at 8:00AM to hook up the service. I order the 15/2MB down load for $44 per month with 1 yr contract. Plus 1st month free. George Town, East State and Landing rd, 46774 zip code area. After the 28th, I will make a call to Comcast and cancel my high speed internet. Then my home would be rid of Comcast forever!!! I cant wait to here their sales pitch when I make that call. Then I cant wait to tell them to kiss my big fat hairy white butt!! LOL Yes you heard me right. After the last 30 yrs they been here, they kept raising rates up every 6 months. Now watch them start lowering their rates, because Verizon FIOS moving in.

Some interesting notes from a Verizon installer:

By the way, anyone getting a fios install there are a few things you need to know. Verizon Technicians are told to try to hide the cat 5 wire as much as possible, but as you all probably know, that isn't always possible. Also they only really give us about an hour to run the cat 5 cable, so serious wall fishes on insulated walls are out. We can get into attics if they have flooring and lights, and we can usually accomodate wall fishes on interior walls with no insulation but again, we do need access to them from the attic. We will use any existing cat 5 that you run if you have already planned ahead, and it will make the install go a lot faster if you run it instead of the techs, and i'm sure they would be more than happy to give you the amount of wire back that you used. The other major consideration is the battery back up/power supply. This must be mounted inside, and it needs to be near a 110v ac outlet. They are actually two units, the power supply must be next to the ac outlet and is no bigger than a power strip, and the bbu which supplies 4 hours of emergency phone service is about half the size of the ONT or half the size of a shoebox. The Battery Backup should in reality be placed fairly close to the ONT. Here is a link to the verizon faq that explains some of the details of the install, any other questions don't hesitate to ask. »www22.verizon.com/FiOSforhome/channels..

Thats what I thought too after they buried the cable from the main to my house. Then  4 weeks went by, and still no phone call. Then until last Friday I received a email saying FIOS was up and running in my area, and that I needed to call them to schedule a appointment. Yes, I would call them. And at the other forum. I notice the pretty much everyone else had to call also, after they had their cable buried.

You guys are in the same area so I would call them. I am in a different area  (over a few roads to the west), and I have the wire burried, too. But, they told me the main trunk line is not connected, yet, for my area. They told me they would mail me a flyer when I can call to hook up. But, I just keep calling them anyway. Cannot wait to get hooked up.

Yes, when I called them, they set me up for November 28th. So 3 days from now, I can finally tell Comcast get out of my house!! Then the next step would be FIOS TV, I dont see that happening sometimes in 2006 once they apply for a franchies permit with Fort Wayne.
